Team shuffler
Turn a list of people into balanced groups — for five-a-side, workshops or a classroom.
What "balanced" means here
The list is shuffled first, then dealt out one at a time like cards. If the number of people does not divide evenly, the remainder is spread across groups rather than piled onto the last one.
| People | Groups | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | 2 | 5 + 5 |
| 11 | 2 | 6 + 5 |
| 17 | 4 | 5 + 4 + 4 + 4 |
Tips
- Shuffle in front of everyone — visible randomness settles arguments.
- For repeat sessions, reshuffle each time instead of rotating a fixed order.
- Captains picking in turn is not random; it is a popularity contest with extra steps.
